Metrics

Acceleration

Acceleration sensors are calibrated in accordance with ISO 16063-16:2014. This method uses local Earth gravity as a reference, avoids dynamic disturbances, and ensures minimal measurement uncertainty. Read more

Velocity during the driving test

Our calibration of velocity is performed during real-world driving tests on a precisely measured test track. This allows us to evaluate sensor performance under real-world conditions, including dynamic factors such as acceleration and driving dynamics. For particularly low or high speeds, we also offer GNSS-based calibration using simulated speed profiles. This method enables reproducible testing even in extreme conditions, without safety risks and with full traceability to national standards. Read more

Angular Velocity

Angular velocity is measured on a rotating turntable in the range of ±0–500°/s. Using the DKD-R-3-13 Sheet 1 procedure, we implement the national guideline for quasi-static calibration of angular velocity (fiber-optic, MEMS). This ensures the highest precision, linearity, and international traceability. Read more

FAQ

1. What does GNSS and INS/IMU calibration mean?

Which systems can be calibrated?

We can factory-calibrate all GNSS and INS/IMU systems that output the following parameters via a suitable interface:

  • acceleration

  • rotational speed

  • velocity

Supported interfaces (including):

  • CAN

  • Ethernet

  • Analog

This allows both GeneSys systems and external devices to be integrated into existing testing and calibration workflows.

2. What is factory calibration?

Factory calibration is the traceable calibration of an ADMA system performed by GeneSys in accordance with the procedures required for ISO certification. It ensures that the entire system operates within the specified measurement accuracies.

The following steps are performed as part of the factory calibration:

  • Adjustment “as found / as left“

At the start, the system’s condition is recorded in the “as found” configuration. After calibration and adjustment, the final condition is documented as “as left.” This makes it clear whether any deviations were corrected and, if so, which ones.

  • Testing of the entire system at the test site

The entire ADMA system, including all interfaces, is tested for full functionality at the test station using the appropriate test equipment.

  • Firmware-Update

The system will be updated to the latest released firmware for the ADMA and the built-in GNSS receiver.

  • Dynamic Free Ride

In addition, a dynamic test is conducted in the vehicle (“free-running test”) to verify the system’s behavior under real-world driving conditions.

All GeneSys systems are shipped with a certificate of traceable factory calibration.

3. What does “cross-manufacturer” mean?

At GeneSys, "multi-vendor" means that we can calibrate not only our own ADMA systems, but also any other measurement system that provides the relevant parameters via standardized interfaces.

Specifically, this includes:

  • Supported metrics

Systems that provide speed, acceleration, or rotational rates.

  • Supported interfaces

The data must be output via CAN or Ethernet. This allows us to read and analyze measurement data regardless of the manufacturer and apply the appropriate testing and calibration procedures.

  • The goal of cross-manufacturer calibration

Consistent test results, reproducible quality, and comparability across different systems and manufacturers.

This ensures that customers can have their measurement systems calibrated by GeneSys with the same quality, traceability, and technical precision they have come to expect, regardless of the manufacturer.

4. What is an ISO 17025 calibration?

An ISO 17025 calibration is an accredited calibration performed in accordance with the requirements of the international standard DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. This standard defines the technical competence, impartiality, and standardized operating procedures of calibration laboratories worldwide.

At GeneSys, ISO 17025 calibration means:

  • Accredited measurement parameters

Our calibration laboratory is accredited by DAkkS for the measurement quantities of velocity, acceleration, and angular velocity. GeneSys is also the first DAkkS-accredited laboratory authorized to calibrate the measurement quantity of velocity in the range of 5 m/s to 23 m/s in accordance with standards.

  • Traceability to national and international standards

All measurements are performed using traceable reference standards and are fully documented, including uncertainties in the measurements and calibration certificates.

  • Across all manufacturers

ISO 17025 calibrations can be performed for both ADMA systems and measurement systems from other manufacturers.

  • No adjustment, just calibration

Unlike factory calibration, ISO 17025 calibrations are performed without adjustment. The purpose of the calibration is solely to evaluate and document the current condition from a metrological perspective.

  • Guaranteed international recognition

The results of an accredited calibration are accepted worldwide and can be incorporated into metrological traceability chains.

5. GeneSys calibration laboratories

GeneSys currently operates a DIN- and ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratory at its headquarter in Offenburg, Germany. This laboratory performs all in-house calibrations as well as cross-manufacturer calibrations in accordance with the prescribed quality and traceability standards.

6. How regular calibration boosts trust and competitiveness?

Regular calibrations, whether factory or ISO 17025-accredited, significantly strengthen confidence in your measurement processes and boost your competitiveness.

Why Trust Is Growing:
Only calibrated measurement systems provide legally valid and reliable measurement records, that stand up to scrutiny in audits or disputes. Companies that can demonstrate that they monitor their test equipment and have it calibrated in a traceable manner show their partners and customers that they operate in a reliable, precise, and quality-oriented manner.

Why Competitiveness Is Increasing:
Customers and project partners rely on reproducible results. Documented, traceable calibration demonstrates professionalism and technical excellence. This creates a clear competitive advantage, especially in markets where data quality, compliance with standards, and measurement uncertainty are critical. Regular calibrations also help prevent measurement errors and downtime—a direct contributor to faster project speeds and lower quality costs.
